Choose any app or website you love, one can always see the simplicity, the fluid user flow, the remarkable ease with which the problems get solved. All of this is achieved by Design. The design is the process of constantly finding problems and creating solutions for them.

There are various aspects of design: UI, UX, product designers, graphic designers, interaction designers, information architect, and the list goes on. Here, we will focus on the most common type: UI and UX design.

Difference between UI and UX

UI stands for User Interface, while UX refers to User Experience Design. Both of them are crucial to the product and work closely together. However they are quite distinct and have very different role in design.

What is UI

UI design is closely related to graphic design, but they play a much wider role. It relates to look and feel, the presentation and the interactivity of the product. It also extends to branding design and front-end development.

Your app or site must have a great looking user interface. It should look simple yet elegant, easy to recognize but difficult to recreate. Some of the basic principles of UI are

Look and Feel:

  • Design Research
  • Customer Analysis
  • Branding and Graphic Development
  • User Guides and Storylines

Responsiveness and Interactivity:

  • UI Prototyping
  • Interactivity and Animation
  • Adaptation to all Screen Sizes

A good User Interface gets high conversion rates and is easy to use. In other words, it’s nice to both the business side as well as the people using it.

What is UX

Next we shall have a look at UX Design. User Experience is all about understanding all the aspects of a system(website, app, product or service) as experienced by the users. It’s aim is to create a product or site that users are drawn to, find easy to use, and understand quickly.

User Experience Design is more of an analytical field and technical field. It involves use of cognitive science and sociology to enhance improve usability and enhancing the interaction between the customer and the product.

Some of the common features of UX are

Strategy and Content:

  • Market Research
  • Customer Analysis
  • Product Structure and Strategy
  • Content Development

Wireframing and Prototyping:

  • Wireframing
  • Prototyping
  • Testing/Iteration

Execution and Analysis:

  • Coordination with UI Designer
  • Coordination with Developers
  • Analysis and Iteration

The role of UX is complex and multi-faceted. In conclusion, User Experience Design is the process of developing and improving the quality of interaction between usr and the product. It is also the process of research, testing, development, content, and prototyping to get a quality result.

UX design is not limited to the confines of the computer. It doesn’t even need a screen… User experience is any interaction with any product, any artifact, any system.

Conclusion

When you are planning to build an app or a website you are often busy with adding different functionality and features to it. This does make your product appealing but there is a possibility that the user may face certain difficulty using your product. Thinking about Design is hard, but not thinking about it can be disastrous. A good User Experience Design will render your product easy to use. A proper UI will make your product visually appealing and attractive. In the end, your customers will be happy and your business will be booming.

“You’ve got to start with the customer experience and work back towards technology- not the other way around.” — Steve Jobs
